
Master 100 Tons Near Coastal
This license authorizes the holder to operate an inspected passenger vessel carrying more than six passengers. This typically includes small ferries, sightseeing and small tour vessels.
The Masters license is endorsed with an Inland or Near Coastal route limitation based on the bodies of water where you have obtained your sea experience. Inland will allow you to operate inside the Boundary Line (46CFR Part 7)with paying passengers, Near Coastal allows you to operate up to 200 miles from shore with paying passengers. Prince William Sound, Cook Inlet, Resurrection Bay, Chiniak Bay and Raspberry Straits and the Inside Passage of SE Alaska are all designated Inland waters by the U.S. Coast Guard (46 CFR Part 7).
Eligibility Requirements:
• USCG Application
• Age: 19 years old
• Sea Experience:
Master 100 Ton** Inland
- 360 underway days*
- 90 days of the 360 must be within the last 3 years.
Master 100 Ton** Near Coastal
- 720 underway days*
- 360 days of the 720 must be outside of the boundary lines
- 90 days of the 720 must be within the last 3 years.
* A "day" is considered 4 to 8 hours underway.
** Tonnage will be based on the size vessels you have been operating during the last 3 years and will be limited at 25, 50 or 100 Gross Registered Tons accordingly. We will review sea service and applications with students with regard to route and tonnage qualifications.
USCG Approved Master 100 Ton Near Coastal Course:
• Course Attendance: 100% required
• Testing: All testing is completed at Alaska Waters Consulting. Testing with the Coast Guard is not required.
• Certification: Upon successful completion (attendance and passing required exams), you will receive a Certificate of Training valid for one year from the date thereon. This certificate is submitted to a USCG Regional Exam Center along with a completed USCG Application.
This Alaska Waters Course includes a student handbook, instruction, exams, and assistance with USCG Application. Books and tools can be purchased if desired. Career consulting is included with no additional charge.
